Palestine: Administrative detention of municipality member renewed, workers injured, more land theft & prisoner suffering

IOA renews administrative detention of municipality member

ENIN, (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) renewed the administrative detention of Mohammed Nassar, member of Jenin municipal council, for four months for the second time running.

Local sources said that Nassar was arrested since 22-11-2011 during a campaign of arrests in lines of activists of the popular front for the liberation of Palestine.

They said that Nassar has been deprived of family visits ever since his detention without any legal justification.


Six Palestinian workers injured in Israeli army chase of their vehicle

AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– Six Palestinian workers were injured when an Israeli military jeep chased their vehicle near Beit Awwa village, south west of Al-Khalil, on Sunday morning.

Local sources said that five of the six workers were taken to Al-Ahli hospital in Al-Khalil while the sixth was taken to an Israeli hospital in view of the seriousness of his condition.

Palestinian workers trying to reach their jobs in 1948 occupied Palestine are always the target of shooting and detention on the part of the Israeli occupation forces and are mostly forced to pay heavy fines.


IOA expands settlement in occupied Jerusalem

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) has announced plans for the construction of 217 new housing units in Jabal Al-Mukabir in occupied Jerusalem.

The public coalition for the defense of Palestinian rights in Jerusalem said in a statement on Saturday that the IOA plan was an addition to an earlier one in which 100 housing units were built in the same area.

It said that the IOA was also planning the construction of a group of hotels in Beit Safafa on Palestinian land mostly owned by the Orthodox Church in Jerusalem.

The coalition charged that the IOA plans target creating a new demographic, political de facto situation on the ground.

It further noted to other IOA plans to build stone crushers in Dhaheria and Dura villages in Al-Khalil province and Enata in occupied Jerusalem.


Israeli jailors storm prison cells, confiscate prisoners’ belongings

RAMALLAH, (PIC)– Israeli jailors stormed the wards of Palestinian prisoners in Askalan and confiscated their belongings on the first day of their hunger strike, the Palestinian prisoners’ association said on Saturday.

Lawyers of the association quoted prisoners as saying that the jailors confiscated the prisoners’ personal belongings including all electric appliances.

Meanwhile, Fuad Al-Khafsh, the director of Ahrar center for human rights, told the PIC on Saturday that the Israeli prison service (IPS) was exploiting all means to quell the prisoners and foil their hunger strike.

He said that the IPS was moving many prisoners from one jail to another without informing lawyers and blocking visits by those lawyers as part of attempts to abort the hunger strike.

Khafsh said that more prisoners would join the strike on Tuesday and by May all Palestinian prisoners would join the strike.
